BY AND FOR YOUTH
The “BY and FOR” principle is fundamental to the CJFCB. One of the ways we implement it is by involving youth in our committees.
Getting involved in a committee allows youth to:
- work hand in hand with our staff to ensure that activities reflect their interests
- develop their skills and leadership abilities
- serve as accessible role models for other youth in their community

Linguistic Security Committee of B.C.
Since its creation in 2019, the committee has been working across the province to reach out to the community and raise awareness about linguistic insecurity, especially the impact that it can have on language vitality. The committee has also had the chance to lead workshops at a national scale, putting forward the social and linguistic reality of British-Columbia.
Members of the Linguistic Security Committee of B.C. are trained and supervised by Dr. Suzanne Robillard – Doctor in sociolinguistics and honorary lifetime member of the CJFCB. As ambassadors of linguistic security, the committee has the mission of creating spaces to discuss and reflect with members of the community. To do this, they give awareness-raising workshops and develop a variety of resources to respond to the needs of youth to reinforce their linguistic confidence.

The Cabinet
The Cabinet plays a key role in the planning of the B.C. Francophone Youth Parliament (PJFCB). Composed of seven dedicated youth, the Cabinet works with the CJFCB staff to prepare for and bring to life the next edition of the PJFCB.
Cabinet members are elected by participants from the previous PJFCB to specific roles. Each member plays an essential part, both in the Legislative Chamber and in the lead-up to the event. Their responsibilities include:
- selecting the theme and developing the creative content for the event
- planning social evenings
- drafting the vademecum
- managing social media
- managing the schedules for debates and activities, as well as seating arrangements in the Chamber
- selecting bills and supporting the ministers

18+ Committee
The 18+ Committee was created in 2019 in response to a request from our members to have access to more opportunities in French after high school. These opportunities are open to all French-speaking youth aged 18 to 25 from across the province.
The committee’s organizing members, with the support of the coordinator, are in charge of creating and implementing opportunities as diverse as their identities and interests! These activities take place throughout the year. You don’t have to be part of the organizing committee to participate!

Local Committee
The Local Forum Committee comprises students from grades 9 to 12, oftentimes in French immersion or at a CSF school. The Local Forum Committee supports the coordination of the French for the Future Vancouver Local Forum.
Committee members ensure that the current and real needs of high school students in British Columbia, particularly those in French-second language programs, are addressed by the French for the Future Vancouver Local Forum.
Leading up to the event, their role consists of providing feedback on the programme, activities and much more. Then, during the event, they take on leadership roles to guide participants through a full day of activities and fun in French!
