WHAT ARE THE LOCAL FORUMS?

Local Forums are full-day gatherings of activities in French held in more than 15 cities across Canada. They are intended for students in grades 9 to 12 from French Second Language and French First Language programs.

Thanks to the participation of workshop facilitators, community partners and artists from French speaking communities, these forums offer thousands of students the opportunity to discover and appreciate the cultural and professional value of bilingualism, free of charge. They are also an ideal opportunity to encourage exchanges between students, while celebrating Francophone cultures.

Although the forums are held annually in their respective cities, they may be organised by a different coordinator each year!

Throwback to the 2026 edition

On April 30th, the CJFCB organized the French for the Future Vancouver Local Forum on the Simon Fraser University Burnaby campus. Approximately 200 students in grades 9 to 12 from across the Lower Mainland took part in this day promoting bilingualism.

Participants enjoyed a diverse programme of workshops, including a photo scavenger hunt, creating polymer clay medallions, improvisation, a croissant café, and more ! They also attended a live performance by Collage Trad, led by fiddler Gabriel Dubreuil, whose unique sound comes from blending different genres with traditional folk music. Participants also had the opportunity to meet other youth leaders, network with Francophone organisations and explore different ways to make French shine outside of the classroom.

The outstanding leadership of French-speaking youth was once again a notable feature of this edition! Six high school students formed the Local Committee and played key roles in the organisation and running of the event, acting as master of ceremonies, speakers and workshop facilitators.
