New Resources to Foster Linguistic Security in Schools!

A Toolkit on Linguistic Security to Support Teachers in Francophone Schools
This toolkit, funded by the Ministry of Education and Child Care of British Columbia and the Government of Canada, was primarily designed to better support new teachers who have recently arrived in British Columbia to understand their role in developing a sense of linguistic security in their students.
Oftentimes, teachers do not have the necessary knowledge and resources to understand the sociolinguistic realities of their students or the problems of linguistic insecurity that arise in schools in a francophone minority context.
In order to meet this need, the Conseil jeunesse francophone de la Colombie-Britannique (CJFCB) developed this toolkit, which will enable new teachers who have recently arrived in British Columbia to reflect on their professional practice while promoting linguistic security in students' learning and socialization spaces.
The resources in the linguistic security toolkit are now available and accessible for free online at the bottom of this page.

A Toolkit Led by the Educational Community
To bring this project to life, the CJFCB worked closely with a strategic committee made up of eight involved individuals from the education sector. The committee members were the driving force behind this project, drawing on their expertise and experience to guide the selection of resources and ensure that they met the specific needs of new teachers who have recently arrived in British Columbia.
In addition to the strategic committee, teachers and students contributed to the development of the content of several resources by sharing their experiences and reflections.
This toolkit is the result of a collaborative effort, and the CJFCB would like to extend its warmest thanks to everyone who worked to bring this project to fruition, particularly Clémentine Creach for conceptualizing and developing the content of the toolkit and handbook. This project is the result of her joint work with the CJFCB.
What is in the Toolkit ?
This toolkit includes five multimedia educational resources and a handbook. Its contents help you better understand the concept of linguistic insecurity and encourage you to promote the diversity of the French-speaking community in British Columbia in your teaching practices, while reflecting on the essential role teachers play in shaping students' identities in minority language contexts.
To help you explore this toolkit, a handbook is available. It provides an overview of the approach that inspired the creation of each resource, the objectives behind them, and suggests additional tools for exploring certain topics in greater depth.

Are you concerned about linguistic (in)security in schools? The Linguistic Security Summit is just around the corner! The Summit is a one-time event that will bring together educational staff and students from grades 9 to 12 from Francophone schools in British Columbia. It will be held on March 14th at Simon Fraser University's Vancouver campus.
The event will help strengthen students' linguistic security, support educators, and promote the diversity of French in British Columbia. It is also a space for youth voices and encourages dialogue between youth and educators within the Francophone educational community.
