RECAP OF THE 2024 EDITION: ANTIRACISM AND COMMUNITIES OF BELONGING
The latest edition of the Summit took place from March 15th-17th at l’école André-Piolat in North Vancouver. The event welcomed 59 students from grades 8-12 from schools within the Francophone school board!
The chosen theme for this edition of the Summit, antiracism and communities of belonging, aimed to offer youth present spaces to speak about their experiences with race as well as opportunities to imagine more inclusive communities together. They were able to participate in a variety of activities including painting and improv workshops, open forums, discussions about racism within sports, music and media as well as social periods and candid moments to share lived experiences. Participants left equipped with skills to combat racism present within their everyday lives, but also broadened perspectives. An unforgettable experience allowing for youth all across the province to create lifelong friendships!
THE SUMMIT, ORGANISED BY AND FOR YOUTH
This edition would not have been possible without the support of our working group. Composed of a handful of passionate youth, their involvement made for a truly unique opportunity created BY and FOR youth. The working group was able to envision and host different activities centered around the sharing of ideas and experiences as well as reflecting on how to make our communities safer and more welcoming. All of these activities required participants to think creatively and critically about who they are. With identity being a key part of the Summit, youth present, no matter their background, were able to learn together, enhance their awareness on issues others are facing as well as think about their different roles within each of their communities.
