EMPREINTES FORUM - YOUNG PEOPLE ARE COMMITTED TO BETTER INCLUSION OF DIVERSITY
The Francophone Youth Council of British Columbia welcomed 40 young participants to the Empreintes Forum. The objective this year is to understand the issues of intersectionality and think about implementing impactful actions.
The Empreintes Forum, which took place from December 1 to 3 at the Pionniers-de-Maillardville school (Port Coquitlam), brought together young people from the Francophone School Board of British Columbia (CSF) from across the province, around of the theme of intersectionality to understand and deepen this subject at the heart of current events.
A forum full of meetings and learning
Around forty young people met this weekend to discuss different topics with an intersectional lens. Different speakers took turns to address, among other things, the demystification of gender stereotypes, the representation of races and ethnicities in the media as well as linguistic security.
We also thank the presence of Amé from the FrancoQueer Committee of the West, Marie-Rose Monabeka and Yannick Oho Bambe. Everyone was able to share their expertise in a dynamic way!
Beyond the diverse workshops, participants had the opportunity to develop links through different social activities. They were notably able to (re)discover the film The Intouchables during a cinema evening and admire the lights at Lafarge Lake.
From learning to action
Once this new knowledge was acquired, the young people explored different avenues of action related to one of the topics of the Forum with the aim of raising awareness among peers on a social justice theme. Following the Empreintes forum, a Summit on anti-racism will also be organized in collaboration with a subgroup of participants next March in order to explore this very important subject for young people in greater depth.
The coordinator of the Empreintes project, Aliyah Datoo, is very positive about the return of this event: “The young people asked very relevant questions, approached the themes with curiosity and a great desire to learn, which was one of the greatest successes of the forum in addition to the fun that the group was able to share together all weekend! »
